A father sits alone in a darkened room, nursing a beer. He has been avoiding his family for weeks, ever since the day he lost his job. He can't face them, knowing that he is the reason they are struggling. He knows that he should be there for them, but he just can't bring himself to do it. He hears the door open and his wife enters the room. She sees him sitting there and her face falls. "What's wrong?" she asks. He doesn't answer. He just takes another sip of his beer. "Please, talk to me," she says. "I know things are tough right now, but we can get through this together." He shakes his head. "I don't know how," he says. "I'm such a failure." She sits down next to him and puts her arm around him. "You're not a failure," she says. "You're just going through a tough time. But we'll get through this together." He doesn't say anything. He just leans his head on her shoulder and closes his eyes. She strokes his hair and whispers, "I love you." He doesn't say anything, but he knows that she loves him too. And that's all that matters. He doesn't know how long he can avoid his family, but he knows that he can't do it forever. He needs to face them, even though it's going to be hard. He needs to tell them that he loves them and that he's sorry for what he's done. He knows that it won't be easy, but he also knows that it's the right thing to do.
