Behind the scorched rock formation, Kai crouched, adrenaline flooding his veins like molten metal. His pulse rifle, cobbled together from scavenged scraps, spat hot embers with each trigger pull. Across the divide, the silhouette of his pursuer shifted, a hulking brute draped in scavenged armor, wielding a plasma cannon that hummed with predatory hunger. Kai knew this chase wouldn't end well. He was outgunned, outnumbered, and marooned on a hunk of space debris hurtling towards oblivion. Yet, a defiant growl clawed its way out of his throat. He wouldn't go down without a fight. This was his last stand, a desperate ballet of survival amidst the cold emptiness. Every shot, every dodge, a testament to the flickering ember of defiance that burned within him. In the end, it wouldn't be enough. But maybe, just maybe, it would buy him one precious moment, one final breath, before the asteroid and all its secrets became another footnote in the vast, uncaring expanse.
