The man sat in the dark, his eyes closed. He liked it this way, with the world shut out and only his own thoughts for company. He could be himself here, without fear of judgment or scrutiny. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly. He could feel the tension in his body beginning to ease. He was home. He opened his eyes and looked around the room. It was small and simple, but it was all his. He had found this place years ago, when he was at his lowest point. It had been a refuge for him, a place where he could start over. He had come a long way since then. He had found a job, made friends, and even started dating again. But he never forgot this place. It was always there for him, a reminder that he could always find peace and quiet if he needed it. He stood up and walked over to the window. He looked out at the city below. It was a beautiful night, with the stars shining brightly in the sky. He smiled. He was glad to be alive.
