Persephone, Goddess of Spring Persephone is the Greek goddess of spring. She is the daughter of Zeus and Demeter, and the wife of Hades. Persephone is often depicted as a young woman wearing a flowing gown and a crown of flowers. She is associated with flowers, fertility, and new life. Persephone's story is one of loss and redemption. She was abducted by Hades and taken to the underworld, where she became his queen. Demeter, Persephone's mother, was so grief-stricken that she refused to allow the earth to produce crops. Zeus eventually intervened, and Persephone was allowed to return to the earth for part of each year. During this time, the earth is renewed and flowers bloom. Persephone is a powerful and important goddess. She represents the cycle of life and death, and the hope that even in the darkest of times, there is always hope for renewal.
