Whimsical Mermaid The mermaid was a creature of whimsy. She loved to play tricks on the unsuspecting sailors who sailed past her home in the sea. She would often change her appearance to appear as a beautiful woman, and then lure the sailors to their doom. One day, a young sailor named Eric was sailing past the mermaid's home. He was a handsome young man, and the mermaid was immediately smitten with him. She changed her appearance to that of a beautiful woman, and then swam up to his ship. "Hello," she said. "My name is Ariel. What is yours?" "Eric," the young man said. "It's nice to meet you." "It's nice to meet you too," Ariel said. "What are you doing out here all alone?" "I'm sailing to the next port," Eric said. "I'm going to be a merchant." "A merchant?" Ariel said. "That sounds exciting." "It is," Eric said. "I'm looking forward to it." "Well, I hope you have a safe journey," Ariel said. "Thank you," Eric said. "I'm sure I will." Ariel watched as Eric's ship sailed away. She was sad to see him go, but she knew that he would be back. She had plans for him. The next day, Eric's ship was wrecked in a storm. Eric was the only survivor. He washed up on a beach, and he was found by a group of fishermen. The fishermen took Eric to their village, and they nursed him back to health. When Eric was fully recovered, he decided to stay in the village. He found a job as a fisherman, and he quickly fell in love with the village life. He forgot all about the mermaid, and he never thought about her again. One day, Eric was fishing in the bay when he saw a beautiful woman swimming in the water. He was immediately smitten with her, and he swam out to meet her. "Hello," he said. "My name is Eric." "Hello," the woman said. "My name is Ariel." "It's nice to meet you, Ariel," Eric said. "What are you doing out here all alone?" "I'm swimming," Ariel said. "I love to swim." "I love to swim too," Eric said. "We should swim together sometime." "I would like that," Ariel said. Eric and Ariel swam together every day after that. They fell in love, and they were soon married. They lived happily ever after in the village, and they never forgot the whimsical mermaid who had brought them together.
