"Can you guess how many items there are in the limited amount of time as they grow at each new level?" This is a challenging question. One way to approach it is to think about the rate at which the items are growing. If the items are growing exponentially, then the number of items will double at each new level. So, if there are 10 items at the first level, there will be 20 items at the second level, 40 items at the third level, and so on. Another way to approach the question is to think about the total number of items that will be present at all levels. If there are 10 items at the first level, and the items are growing exponentially, then there will be 2 10 = 20 items at the second level. There will be 2 20 = 40 items at the third level, and so on. So, the total number of items at all levels will be 10 + 20 + 40 + ... = 20 (1 + 2 + 3 + ...) = 20 (n(n+1))/2 = 20 n^2. In other words, the total number of items at all levels is equal to the square of the number of items at the first level.
